MOOR
Insights & Strategy takes a close look at an
open source high availability solution for private clouds.
In
today's always-on world, high
availability is the primary barrier for enterprise adoption of the
cloud for mission critical applications. Because, when moving
from traditional IT to private cloud, there has been a tradeoff between
elasticity and availability. For this reason, only applications that do
not demand high levels of availability have been moved to the cloud.
This
paper presents a flexible OpenStack enterprise-class solution that puts
availabilty on the platform layer, protecting both the cloud layer and
application workloads from downtime. Using a dashboard to pick the
appropriate level of resources, IT can control the granularity of
application availability specific to each application and instance.
Moor discusses is further detail:
- Differences
between elasticity and availability
- Market
benefits of using high availability within private cloud infrastructures
- Benefits
of Platform vs. Application level availability
